  • Vision for Remote ISTE
    • It's part of ISTE's "Operational Strategic Plan"
    • Extend the conference beyond the walls of the convention center
    • Get people excited about attending the ISTE conference in the future
    • Demonstrate best practices in distance education
  • Extending the Conference
    • The PD part of the conference is made up of Keynote sessions, concurrent sessions and workshops, and we're bringing each to you
    • The conference is also made up of activities that take place outside of the sessions and workshops like the posters, playgrounds, lounges, exhibits, student showcases, and more. We're going to bring these to you too.
  • Remote ISTE is brought to you by the ISTE special interest groups in Interactive Video Conferencing (SIGIVC) and On-line Learning (SIGOL) and the ISTE staff. SIGIVC and SIGOL work to demonstrate best practices in their fields.
    • We're incorporating both asynchronous and real-time learning for the program
    • We're using a variety of tools for the conference based on the audience and type of session. Streaming video for one way delivery (keynote session), video and web conferencing for concurrent sessions, etc.
    • We have incorporated an asynchronous component into the program this year for people who like measured, interactive discussions without the frenetic pace of real-time chat
  • Building Excitement around the ISTE Conference
    • Many people have heard of the ISTE Conference but don't know what it has for them
    • They don't know about all the great opportunites to network and learn outside of traditional sessions
    • They don't know about the breadth and depth of content offered at the conference
    • Remote ISTE gives people a chance to experience the ISTE Conference, asynchronously and real time, without having to leave home and travel to the conference city
  • Present today's schedule (slide, remind people schedules are on the Participant Web)
  • Web - People can move between "tracks". They're not required to stay in one. Encourage them to follow the content they find most intersting
  • Web - Talk about Adobe Connect and best practices for Adobe Connect
  • IVC - Talk about the sessions and how questions will get asked and answered during the concurrent session(s). (Hand waving, being called on, etc.)
  • Connect - Talk about the sessions (video pod, content pod, audio, questions in the Q&A pod, Questions relayed by proxy in the session audience)
  • Explain to all audience that Sessions are "Spotlight Sessions with seating for nearly 500 people." Most questions won't get taken nor answered
  • Encourage people to ask questions and discuss sessions/workshops/etc. in the Participant Web discussion groups.
  • Explain that groups are moderated for two weeks and moderators will attempt to contact session presenters with questions and post answers recieved
  • Explain PeoPLES sessions
    • PeoPLES are an attempt to give Remote ISTE participants a little of the flavor of the conference that happens in the hallways and common areas of the conference
    • Lots of learning and networking takes place between sessions and workshops and that's the "people" part of the conference
    • Depending on the convention facility, PeoPLES sessions are live in the hallways.
    • This year we're going to bring them PeoPLES with video taken Monday and with a host to explain the value of each area
  • Web - Tech support is available. Email RemoteISTETech@gmail.com or post to the discussion group "Questions? Contact Us"
